A disappointing loss means that Romford could be relegated before they play their next match.
With goalkeeper Rob Budd unavailable Romford manager Paul Martin had no option but to play striker Nick REYNOLDS in goal with Kris NEWBY coming back in the side after his four game suspension. Captain Danny Cossington was also missing due to injury and was replaced in the centre of the park by Kai HEATHER with Chris TAYLOR moving up front. Things did not start very well for the Boro when Brentwood forward Tony Stokes turned in a long throw from the right and gave the hosts a fourth minute lead. Romford were back on level terms a few minutes later though when Ernest OKOH did well down the right wing, beating his man before pulling the ball back to Carlos DJALO who turned and fired low into the back of the net. Romford were suddenly well on top and causing the Brentwood defence all sorts of problems and any one watching were just waiting for the visitors to take the lead but unfortunately the goal never came. Djalo volleyed just over after latching onto Ekoh flick while Newby shot just wide after and excellent run. Romford were getting infuriated with the officials as time after time a Romford player was fouled after breaking clear but no yellow cards were shown until substitute Theo Jones was booked for something that resembled assault. Tom POTTER and Kris NEWBY both had headers saved while Taylor will be annoyed at missing a chance. Djalo did well down the right before pulling the ball back to him but the striker missed his kick and the chance went begging.
With the temperatures soaring the second half was understandably played at a slower pace and after a few shots from distance that were easily saved by Reynolds, the hosts took the lead when Stokes found space to shoot and doubled his and his team's tally for the afternoon. Romford threw everything forward but could not find a goal they desperately needed with Ayo OLUKOGA, Okoh and Djalo all going close. With time ticking away an equaliser should have come when a miss kick allowed substitute Chiduben ONOKWAI to race clear but the striker for some reason, took an age to shoot and by the time he did his shot was easily blocked. The defeat along with the Norwich win leave Romford five points adrift at the bottom with two games to play.
