Despite winning their final match of the season it was not enough to prevent Romford from being relegated on goal difference

However, they may still be rewarded for picking up thirteen points out of a possible fifteen in April as the demise of other clubs during the season may open the door to a possible reprieve, with Boro having the best points per game ratio of all the teams who finished second from bottom in the seven leagues at their level.

Once again during an even first half where chances were at premium Romford did not look like a team fighting relegation, being just as good as the ninth placed visitors. Witham Town who had the same number of points as Boro but had a four goal better goal difference were also drawing 0-0 at the break, so everything would be decided in the final forty five minutes of the campaign.

It was a dream start to the second half for Romford after only a minute when Ayo Olukoga's cross was glanced in by the head of Craig Jeakins. Felixstowe went close, then a Greg Akpele effort was blocked but fell to Jimmy Cox who saw his powerful shot somehow headed off the line by a defender. Boro were only to be denied for a few more minutes though as a Joseph Chidyausiku drive from an acute angle on the right surprised everyone when it bent in and rebounded into the net via the inside of the far post. But in between times depressing news had come through from Basildon that Witham had taken a two goal lead.

Darren Mills then pulled one back for Felixstowe but Romford were undaunted, and after seventy three minutes Jimmy Cox dribbled across the edge of the box before picking his spot for number three. In the time remaining Boro never gave up their chase for more goals whilst hoping for a miracle at Basildon, but it was not to be. It goes without saying that they were cheered off at the end after a wonderful fighting performance against the odds and whatever their eventual fate, can hold their heads up high.
