Playing their fifth away match on the bounce, Paul Martin brought in debutants Malaki Toussaint and Darnel Gaother-Braithwaite with Connor Hammond also returning to the club and the starting line up. The hosts, kicking down one of the biggest slopes I have seen for a long time, started brightly and Rhys Hughes had to be alert to deny Thomas Debenham's free header while Panayiotos Baxter fired just wide moments later. In the eighth minute Emmanuel Osei-Owusu picked the ball up thirty yards from goal and curled a sublime effort into the top corner, leaving Boro keeper Hughes with no chance. Osei-Owusu had another opportunity four minutes later but headed straight at the keeper. Romford finally started to get into the game with Ayo Olukoga and Toussaint linking up well before firing at goal but the keeper was well positioned to make a save. Danny Cossington headed over a Hammond's corner before Max Bolton forced the keeper into a good save after running on to Chris Taylor's flick and beating a defender. Hughes made another good save before Mildenhall grabbed their second of the afternoon. Romford had a corner that was cleared upfield to Abouhadje Kouassi who outpaced his marker before cutting in and firing home.
Romford had the slope with them in the second half and straight away were on the front foot with Gaother-Braithwaite firing just wide after a strong run before the Boro grabbed the goal back that they desperately needed. Romford won a corner that was swung in low by Hammond and missed at the front post by a Mildenhall defender. George Forrest had a great chance to shoot but touched it to Henry Fisher to smash home his first goal for the club. Substitute Roddy Lemba then had a golden opportunity to equalise but from only a few yards out his poke towards goal hit a Romford player on the back and somehow cleared the bar. The hosts always looked dangerous on the counter and had a few chances to put the game to bed but they either fluffed their lines or Hughes was there to make saves. With a minute to go Romford pumped a ball into the box that was completely misjudged by the home stopper who could only push the ball straight at the onrushing Forrest and the ball bounced off him and towards the goal before it was somehow cleared to Lemba, but his shot was blocked on the line before being scrambled clear. Despite a minimum of five minutes added time being indicated, most of it was lost due to a lengthy injury and inexplicably no further time was added on by the referee .
