Gary Redwin

Romford's league future is now in their own hands after moving off the bottom of the table, leapfrogging Norwich United by a point with four games to play.

Despite the importance of the match for both teams there was a strange feeling of an end of season mid table clash and the visitors certainly did not look like a team pushing for automatic promotion. After a slow start the first half chance fell to Romford with Carlos Djalo slipping in Ayo Olukoga but the pass was just overhit and the keeper managed to rush out and stop the attack. In the seventeenth minute Romford had their best chance of the match when a right wing cross from Jonathon Nzengo reached the far post and NIck Reynolds outjumped his marker, but his powerful header went agonisingly wide of the post. At the other end Rob Budd twice had to be alert and pushed away two Potters Bar efforts before a goalmouth scramble in the Boro penalty box was finally cleared by Danny Cossington. Romford wasted another chance as the first half drew to a close when Ernest Okoh got behind the defence and pulled the ball back to Olukoga but the midfielder got it all wrong and fired way over.

The second half went the same way as the first except Potters Bar decided to try and con the referee with a lot of diving, playacting and coordinated appeals anytime one of their players went to ground for any reason, but the official was having none of it and finally booked the visitor's captain for his petulance. Both teams had a few half chances but nothing clear cut until the Potters Bar centre back made a superb goal saving challenge to deny Okoh when he seemed to have been clean through on goal. With minutes remaining Romford nearly gifted their visitors an undeserved winner when a sloppy pass was cut out and the ball forward sent the striker through on goal, but Budd made a good save with his feet before the referee brought things to an end. Romford probably just edged the match but a draw was a fair result and the point gives Romford the advantage now of just having to match the Norwich United results.
