Another home defeat leaves Boro still deep in relegation danger.

After being desperately unlucky to lose to a breakaway goal conceded late into added time at Hertford, a few weeks ago and the morale boosting victory over Barking, Romford were hoping to turn the tables on their opponents but as has happened on many occasions this season they were rocked by an early goal. There was only five minutes on the clock when Phillip Lowen got onto the ball nearly thirty yards from goal and hit a wonderful strike into the top corner giving Rob Budd no chance. Boro, as they always do pushed forward and created half chances and Charlie Mann, in the Hertford goal just saved an equaliser with his fingertips after being sent the wrong way when Chiduben Onokwai's powerful strike was deflected by a defender.

The visitors went further ahead after thirty four minutes after it had looked like Romford had foiled a sustained attack with some last ditch defending but the final clearance fell short and was crossed back in from the right for Charlie Ruff to side foot home. However Boro were back in the game five minutes later when Connor Hammond slung in a low free kick from the left and Onokwai cleverly dummied, allowing the ball to run through to Andrew Tiranhu who scored from close range. The free kick had followed a nasty foul on Craig Jeakins and just before half time the game boiled over with a fracas involving many players from both sides. Despite taking a while to sort out and bearing in mind there had earlier been a couple of injuries requiring treatment by the physios, everybody was amazed when the referee played only one minute of added time.

As the second half got underway it was obvious that the next goal would be crucial and Romford shot themselves in the foot somewhat when a defender collided with a Hertford forward right on the edge of the penalty box when he was presenting no danger to goal. The resulting penalty was struck home with force by Michael Toner leaving Boro with a mountain too climb. They battled on gamely but had no luck in front of goal and the visitors clinched the points with a sixty ninth minute header by Luke Illsley from a free kick crossed in from the right.
