Match report by Phil Redwin
It was a second trip in four days up the A12 and their first ever visit to Stanway's version of The Hawthorns for Romford, as they sought to build on Saturday's deserved victory at Little Oakley. Some players were unavailable due to work commitments so that meant team changes including a debut for Shay La Rose.
The first half was pretty even with a few good chances for both sides and was interesting due to the contrast in styles, with Stanway content to defend against Boro's usual measured build up play, and then break out with very fast and direct counter attacks. Indeed the only goal of the half came about in that fashion when after 26 minutes Romford lost possession from a throw in level with the Stanway goal area. The ball was then hit long through the Boro defence for Max Sherlock to finish decisively.
Manager for the night, Dan Spinks was obviously not too happy with the way the first half had gone as he made three substitutions before the second half kicked off, and they paid dividends quicker than any of the Boro contingent could have dreamed as after a mere 42 seconds, substitute Alex Balisani dribbled into the left side of the penalty area and smashed the ball home ,
Romford were now unrecognisable from the first half and all over the Stanway defence, looking like they would soon take the lead but the bubble was was soon burst when 13 minutes after the equaliser Stanway again broke quickly and Joe Debell headed in off the underside of the bar. And only two minutes later extended the lead as Freddy Cooper found plenty of space in the Romford area and hit home the third.
Dispirited Boro could not make anything of the chances they created in the last half hour and towards the end Stanway were only prevented from bagging a fourth by a couple of good saves from Jake Anderson.
