Boro’s pre-season programme begins tomorrow with a trip to Hertfordshire to play Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division outfit Wormley Rovers, giving fans their first opportunity to take a look at Kris Newby’s new look squad, which includes some exciting new faces and some returning favourites!
Tomorrow night’s game kicks off at 7pm.
There has been just one previous fixture between the teams and that too was a pre-season friendly, played just under twelve months ago when the teams drew 3-3 on a balmy July evening. Boro’s goals on that occasion came from Praise Ogbebor and Isaac Sijuade, who scored twice.

Wormley were originally formed in 1921, but the club folded five years later and were not reformed until 1946. Following many years in junior football, Wormley joined the Hertfordshire Senior League in 1976, winning the Third Division at the first attempt. From 1992 onwards they played in the Hertfordshire Senior League Premier Division before joining the Thurlow Nunn League Division One South in 2018, finishing third in 2022-23 but losing to Sporting Bengal United in the Play-Off Semi-Final. In 2023-24 they finished as runners-up to Benfleet, beat Clapton CFC in their Play-Off Semi-Final and then Dunmow Town in the Final to earn promotion to Step 5 for the first time.
Last season Wormley finished fifth in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division to reach the Play-Offs. Having beaten Tring Athletic 2-1 in the Semi-Final, their hopes of back-to-back promotions were thwarted in the Final by London Lions, to whom they lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Home Ground and How To Get There:
Wormley play their home games at Wormley Playing Fields. The full address of the ground is Church Lane, Wormley, Broxbourne EN10 7QE. By road it’s around 20 miles from Romford and the easiest route is to take the M25 to junction 25, then the A10 northbound, exiting at the A1170 Broxbourne turn-off, then take the first exit from the roundabout onto High Road, then left into Church Lane.
