After wins in the opening two friendlies, Boro travel to Hertfordshire tomorrow evening to take on Spartan South Midlands League side Wormley Rovers. Our opponents met our Essex Senior League rivals Woodford Town on Saturday, losing 2-1. Romford have not previously played Wormley and with Boro’s opening friendlies having been against sides at Step 6 and below, a match against a fellow Step 5 club will provide a good test of the strength of new boss Kris Newby’s squad.
Please note that this game kicks off at the earlier time of 7pm
Brief History:
Wormley were originally formed in 1921, but the club folded five years later and were not reformed until 1946. Following many years in junior football, Wormley joined the Hertfordshire Senior League in 1976, winning the Third Division at the first attempt. From 1992 onwards they played in the Hertfordshire Senior League Premier Division before joining the Thurlow Nunn League Division One South in 2018, finishing third in 2022-23 but losing to Sporting Bengal United in the Play-Off Semi-Final. They went one better last season when having finished as runners-up to Benfleet, they beat Clapton CFC in their Play-Off Semi-Final and then Dunmow Town in the Final to earn promotion to Step 5 for the first time.
Home Ground and How To Get There:
Wormley play their home games at Wormley Playing Fields. The full address of the ground is Church Lane, Wormley, Broxbourne EN10 7QF. By road it’s around 20 miles from Romford and the easiest route is to take the M25 to junction 25, then the A10 northbound, exiting at the A1170 Broxbourne turn-off, then take the first exit from the roundabout onto High Road, then left into Church Lane.
By public transport, the nearest station is Broxbourne, which is about 1.5 miles from the ground.
