Romford make their second trip of the season to Burroughs Park tomorrow, having played there in December, coming away with a valuable point from a 2-2 draw against Great Wakering Rovers. Boro’s opponents tomorrow are Rovers’ tenants, White Ensign.
As ever at this time of year, the weather may intervene, although White Ensign did play at home on Wednesday evening when they beat Benfleet 3-1 in the Errington Challenge Cup, but keep an eye on this website and social media for news of any pitch inspections.
Assuming that the game goes ahead, it will be an earlier than usual start for Boro as kick-off is scheduled for 2pm.
The previous meeting between the teams this season was a remarkable affair, as at Mayesbrook Park in November Romford recovered from a 3-0 deficit with 88 minutes played. Lewis Browne - with his first league goal for the club – scored what appeared to be a mere consolation. Three minutes into stoppage time, Browne scored again and when Boro won a corner five minutes into added time, Rhian Fowler headed home a debut goal to complete the comeback. Among White Ensign’s scorers that day was Henry Hart, who has since rejoined Boro, but who has missed the last two matches through injury.
Previous Meetings:
Last season’s encounters saw Ensign complete the double over Romford as they won 3-1 at Mayesbrook Park in a game that saw Boro keeper Harry Girling sent off in what would be his last appearance for the club. Kennedy Feyi scored Romford’s goal from the penalty spot. The return at Burroughs Park in the penultimate game of the campaign ended with White Ensign 3-0 winners.
Apart from the 3-3 draw earlier this season, Romford have avoided defeat against White Ensign in only two of eight games, a 2-2 Essex Senior League draw at Burroughs Park in 2023-24 and a 2-1 win in the same competition at Rookery Hill thanks to a late goal by Jacob Wiggins which came shortly after Finlay Dorrell had equalised.
Recent Form:
Neither Romford nor White Ensign have been enjoying good form of late with Boro having picked up five points from the last six games while White Ensign have collected one more. In those matches Ensign have won 2-0 at Saffron Walden Town and 1-0 at home against Basildon United, but they have suffered defeats at the hands of Hullbridge Sports, Little Oakley, Great Wakering Rovers, and Barking.
Currently sitting 15th in the table with 27 points from 23 games, White Ensign have won 4 and lost 6 of their home Essex Senior League games, but as mentioned above, beat Benfleet in the Errington Challenge Cup at home earlier in the week.
Home Ground and How To Get There:
As mentioned above, White Ensign play their home games at Great Wakering Rovers’ ground at Burroughs Park, where Romford played just recently. As a reminder, the full address of the ground is Burroughs Park, Little Wakering Hall Lane, Great Wakering, Essex, SS3 0HH.
