Following Saturday’s FA Cup win over Barton Rovers, Boro are back in Essex Senior League action tomorrow evening when Woodford Town come to Mayesbrook Park.

The Woods kicked off their league campaign with an emphatic 6-0 win at Saffron Walden Town and on Saturday they were 1-0 winners at Biggleswade United in the FA Cup. While Boro entertain Baldock Town in the next round, Woodford will be at home to former ESL side Sawbridgeworth Town.

Having reached the Play-Offs in 2023-24 – when they were beaten by Sporting Bengal United in the Semi-Final - and 2024-25, when they went one better but lost in the Final to Takeley, Woodford had what, by their standards, was an indifferent campaign last season. Top of the table in the early stages of the season, they fell away (especially after manager Shane Baptiste stepped away from the club) and they eventually finished 11th. Baptiste has now returned and Woodford can be expected to be strong contenders for promotion.

Previous Meetings:

Woodford Town’s history is a somewhat convoluted one, one that has seen them reform after folding in 2003 in a number of different guises, but in meetings between the teams since Romford returned to the Essex Senior League in 2022, the sides have met 8 times with Romford winning twice and Woodford coming out on top four times.

Last season’s games both resulted in away wins. In September last year Romford won 2-1 at Ashtons thanks to goals from Flynn Hamilton and Nick Reynolds, but in the return at Mayesbrook Park, Woodford came out on top, winning 4-2. Flynn Hamilton and Sonny Dutton scored Romford’s goals in that game.

Romford’s only home win over Woodford came in November 2023 when Kris Newby and Charlie Morris scored in a game that ended 2-1 to Boro.
