Romford v Frenford Preview

Can Boro complete the double over Frenford?

Romford have a chance to complete a double at Mayesbrook Park tomorrow with the visit of Frenford, whom Boro beat 4-2 at The Jack Carter Centre earlier in the season, when Brendan Ocran, Kennedy Feyi, Blaise Uwandji, and Amaree Robinson-Jones were on the scoresheet.

Neither Frenford nor Romford were in action in midweek. While Frenford had no game scheduled, Boro’s match at FC Clacton was postponed yet again due to a waterlogged pitch. The game has now been arranged for Tuesday 11th March. Last weekend’s results for Romford and Frenford were markedly different with Boro falling to a 4-1 defeat at Athletic Newham, while Frenford picked up a 1-0 win at White Ensign, ending their hosts’ nine game unbeaten run.

Previous Meetings:

Romford have played Frenford just three times in competitive matches to date. The first game took place in September 2023 at The Jack Carter Centre in Frenford’s first season at Step 5 following their promotion from the Thurlow Nunn League. Boro made the worst possible start in that game, conceding after less than 30 seconds. Bobby Dailly levelled the scores before the break but Frenford went ahead again early in the second half. Lee Hursit equalised from the penalty spot, but Frenford promptly scored again and it finished 3-2 to the hosts. In the return at Rookery Hill, a Charlie Morris hat-trick plus two goals from Hassan Nalbant and one from Finlay Dorrell gave Boro a comfortable 6-1 win.

As mentioned earlier, this season’s game on Frenford’s patch finished 4-2 to Boro.

This Season/Current Form:

Frenford currently sit thirteenth in the table with 31 points from 29 games. On their travels they have won five and lost five of the eleven games they have played and included in their victories were a 2-0 win at Mayesbrook Park against Barking, a 3-2 win at Ilford, and the previously mentioned 1-0 success at White Ensign. Three of their last four away games have been against opposition striving for promotion, and they were beaten in all of those games, 4-0 at Stanway Rovers, and 2-1 at both Woodford Town and Takeley.

The FA Cup saw Frenford bow out in the Extra-Preliminary Round in which they were beaten at home by Biggleswade United, while in the FA Vase they beat Enfield Borough before being knocked out at home by Dereham Town. They had no success in the Errington Challenge Cup in which they were beaten 3-0 by Athletic Newham, nor in the Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy which saw them beaten on penalties at Saffron Walden Town.
