Both teams are in need of points from tomorrow’s game at Mayesbrook Park, but for quite different reasons. Romford are a mere five points above the Essex Senior League relegation spots following last Saturday’s home defeat at the hands of bottom placed Frenford, while Buckhurst Hill are chasing a Play-Off place. The Stags are currently sixth, eight points behind Ilford in fifth place but with four games in hand and a superior goal difference.
Buckhurst Hill were in action in midweek, in the Final of the Peter Butcher Memorial Trophy. The game was played at Billericay Town’s ground and a crowd of 527 saw Barking lift the trophy after winning 1-0.
Supporters should be aware that there is a Fun Fair in Mayesbrook Park starting today until Sunday 12th April and the last time such an event coincided with a Romford home game, car parking spaces in the stadium and leisure centre care parks were at a premium and that is likely to be the case again tomorrow. Resident only car parking restrictions in side streets adjacent to the ground do not apply on Saturdays, but these roads will probably be very busy. To compound these issues, there is no District Line service tomorrow.
Previous Meetings:
In the game played at Myrak Park earlier in the season, Romford romped to a 4-1 win with Christian Adu Gyamfi scoring twice. Teddy Desmond and Ramzi Mahmoudi – from the penalty spot – scored Boro’s goals while Buckhurst Hill’s goal also came from a penalty.
That game was Boro’s fourth win in the eight meetings between the clubs to date with The Stags winning the other four. Last season The Stags completed the double over Boro, winning 3-0 on a wet and windy afternoon at Buckhurst Hill just before Christmas and then 3-1 at Mayesbrook Park on the final Saturday of the season. Jayden Silcott-Brown scored Boro’s goal which levelled the scores before half-time in that game, only for the visitors to score twice more after the break.
In three home league games against Buckhurst Hill, Romford have won just once, at the start of the 2023-24 season when a late goal from Sonny Shilling earned a 1-0 victory.
Current Form:
Buckhurst Hill have won four and lost two of their last six Essex Senior League games. Their defeats came at Little Oakley, where they were beaten 1-0, and by the same score against SOUL Tower Hamlets in a game that was technically an away game for The Stags, but which was played at Myrak Park.
The Stags’ four wins in the sequence have come over Saffron Walden Town, whom they beat 4-1, 1-0 at West Essex, 2-1 at home against Halstead Town and, in their last league game, 6-1 at Woodford Town where Marko Protic – who recently rejoined them from The Woods – scored a hat-trick. To add to the three he scored against them, Protic scored 11 league goals while with Woodford Town this season.
On the road this season, Buckhurst Hill have won 8 and lost 6 with one game drawn.
