Following the postponement of the game at Histon on 18th January, Romford are due to travel there tomorrow, Tuesday 18th February however, Histon’s home game against Coggeshall Town was postponed on Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch, since when further rain means that this game is likely to be subject to a pitch inspection. Any news on that front will be posted here and on social media.
If the game goes ahead, a victory for Boro would put us level on points with Felixstowe, whose game on Saturday was, like ours, postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Histon are currently eighth in the league table, but have won only once in their last six matches – they won 3-1 at Great Wakering Rovers on 2th January – and their most recent outing saw them beaten 2-1 at Bury Town.
This will only be the second time that Romford have met Histon, and the game earlier in the season ended with a Boro comfortable 5-1 winners, with Temi Babalola (who has now joined Concord Rangers from Brentwood Town) and Giovanni Palmer each scoring twice, with Reece Tranter getting the other goal.
Assuming that the game is on, directions to Histon’s ground are as follows:
The Glassworld Stadium is situated to the east of the B1049, just over half a mile north of Junction 32 of the A14. Take the M11 and leave at Junction 14 to take the A14 Eastbound (Newmarket, Ipswich) leave the A14 at Junction 32 turning left onto the B1049. The B1049 goes north, with the Holiday Inn on the right and then climbs to go over the old railway line. The Glass World Stadium is on the right-hand side next to the recreation ground as the road descends the hill. A limited amount of public parking is available at the ground on a first come, first served basis and costs £2 for cars. Postcode for Sat Navs is CB24 9PH.
By public transport, you first need to get to Cambridge – trains to the university city run from Kings Cross and journey times vary depending on the service. From central Cambridge or Cambridge Railway Station, take the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway (route A, B or C) towards St Ives or Huntingdon or the Citi 8 bus service towards Cottenham. The Guided Busway stops at Histon & Impington outside the Railway Vue pub, just two minutes from the ground. The Citi 8 also stops near the Railway Vue, or you can get off at the Cambridge Lea hospital stop just one minute from the ground. Given that the earliest that public transport would get you back to London is around about 1am on Wednesday morning, this method is probably not to be recommended.
