The Boro opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Liam BURGESS linked up well with Chinedu MCKENZIE down the right hand side allowing the latter to cross in low to Lee WEEMES who was making his first start, and the striker slid in to poke the ball home. In the eleventh minute McKenzie had three shots on goal in quick succession but the first two were blocked and the third was deflected just over the bar. Reynolds who had little to do in the opening twenty minutes was called into action by two long distance drives that on both occasions he managed to dive at full length and push away from goal. George TUBEY produced some excellent close skills and beat his man down the left wing but his cross was just too far out of reach of Weemes, but Romford did extend their lead in the twenty-fifth minute when George WOODWARD got past his man and whipped the ball into the far post where Chris TAYLOR scored with a cushioned volley to the top corner to record his first for the club. Romford were looking dangerous when attacking down the flanks and Harry CULHAM headed just wide from another great cross. At the other end Reynolds was quick off his line to save from an Abbey forward before the break.

Romford grabbed their third eight minutes after the restart when a long throw was only cleared to George TUBEY on the edge of the box and the midfielder chested the ball down before volleying into the top left hand corner. Romford looked totally in command playing some good passing football until they took their foot off the gas towards the end allowing Abbey to press forward, but Culham was alert and made a goal saving challenge when Reynolds was beaten to a long ball, while some poor finishing and inspired goalkeeping stopped Abbey registering a score. In the last minute they had one final chance but Reynolds was determined to keep his clean sheet and produced another fine save to keep them at bay.
