Romford were knocked out off the FA Cup losing this replay after a penalty shoot out against ten man Hoddesdon.

Boro manager Paul Martin made five changes to the side that started at Ware’s Wodson Park on Saturday, with one of them forced as Atu Ngoy took over in goal from the unavailable Michael Gooch.
Romford started well, showing a more attacking threat early on than they had on Saturday and after a Jamie Dicks cross found its way into the box Joe Scott swivelled but his half volley hit the outside of the post and went wide on eight minutes. A minute later and another good chance was created when Joe Scott blocked a clearance and the ball fell to Nick Reynolds at the right hand side of the penalty area but his low drive was well saved. Both teams were mostly cancelling each other out in midfield, but in the twenty-seventh minute a diagonal pass over the visitor's defence was chased by Joe Scott who reached the ball just before the keeper and tried to take it around him, but the keeper stood tall and jockeyed the forward to give his defenders a chance to get back and clear the cross. In the thirty-fourth minute the visitors scored the first goal of the tie, when a short free-kick was played into the box and following a neat pass to Jesse Lillis the winger found a bit of space to the right of goal and his shot squeezed in off the far post.

Romford needed to raise their game but it was the visitors who went closest to scoring early on in the second half with a header that was was easily saved by Atu Ngoy, before Romford started to finally up the tempo on the hour mark. With this increase came better play but they still could not break down the stubborn defence with a Nick Reynolds cross being deflected just wide, their best chance. The game swung in Romford's favour when Tommy Wade was sent off for a late two footed challenge on a Romford defender giving the referee no option but to flash the red card.

Romford made a double substitution bringing on Greg Akpele and Joe Bricknell as the hosts looked to take advantage of their extra man and captain Nick Reynolds nearly produced a bit of magic with good feet in the box, but his left foot shot went just wide in the seventieth minute. Greg Akpele sent in a cross that just eluded everyone but with time running out the winger beat his man down the left and his drilled cross come shot was deflected via a defender onto the unlucky Buck in the Hoddesdon goal who was only able to palm it into the net.

In extra time Romford piled on the pressure and Jake Giddings had an early chance but decided to pass rather than shoot when free in the box. Jamie Dicks' long range shot was beaten away at the end of the first period while Joe Bricknell had another long range effort saved just after the restart. Despite having all the play Romford could not break down the visitors and the game went to the lottery of penalties. Joe Bricknell, Jake Giddings and Harry Culham all scored for Romford matched by Taylor, Lillis and Summers for Hoddesdon, before Greg Akpele saw his effort saved by Buck. O'Connor then fired over before Nick Reynolds did the same. Atu Ngoy kept out Lowen’s penalty to send the shoot out into sudden death, with Jamie Dicks seeing his low penalty cancelled out by McMenemy's also on target. Nathan Cooper who has been excellent all season, stepped up but his shot was saved leaving Metivier the chance to win it for the visitors and he made no mistake, sending his club into the next round and leaving Romford disappointed they could not get their hands on the prize money the club desperately needs.
