A wind assisted 9th minute Uxbridge shot from distance beat flew over Aaron Omand but hit the bar before Romford suffered yet another injury blow with skipper Jack Barry having to leave the field. Like the previous encounter, the first period was mostly fought in midfield before a flurry of attacks towards the end saw Boro come very close with Nick Reynolds and Ryan Imbert both having powerful, on target shots well saved. However, Uxbridge took a fortunate lead during added time when an intended Boro clearance cannoned off a second defender and back into the goal.
The second half also took a while to get going but eventually saw Boro doing most of the attacking. Good moves culminated in a Callum Ibe shot after he sped through the middle, and an acrobatic Eddie Hart overhead kick, once again bringing good saves from the keeper before a quick Uxbridge break saw Aaron Omand having to dive low to his right.
On 67 minutes an unnecessary foul on the Boro left gave Reece Cosson the opportunity to find Nick Reynolds with an inswinging free kick and his perfect back header brought the scores level. Uxbridge came back and Aaron Omand had to pull off the best save of the night, but it was into extra time.
Like the previous cup replay at Kingstonian, Romford took an early extra time lead after six minutes when Ollie Dingli got on the end of a long ball into the box to sidefoot home with the referee overruling his linesman's offside flag. Ryan Imbert very nearly clinched it for Boro with a weaving run into the box from the corner flag but after 109 minutes Woods got clear and scored from an acute angle to once again bring the tie level.
And so the dreaded penalty shoot out, and unusually all ten efforts were on target. Romford went first but Reece Cosson's shot was saved as was the first Uxbridge effort. Matt Toms and Uxbridge's second were successful but Ryan Imbert was not. Aaron Omand got both hands to next one but it dropped agonisingly over the line, before young Elliot Long scored with probably the best of them all, but the home side then went back ahead, but only off the inside of the post. Eddie Hart kept Romford alive for another minute but Aaron Omand just could not reach the final penalty which saw a relieved and rather fortunate Uxbridge through to the next round.
