Both teams made big changes from their matches at the weekend but it was Thurrock’s squad that looked stronger and they were assisted twice early on by two Romford own goals. On three minutes a cross down the right was turned in by Romford defender Scott Truman and then on eleven minute Archie Barnes making his debut for the Boro tried to intercept a cross, this time from the left but could only divert the ball past Aaron Omand. Neither team really produced much during this lacklustre first half with Aaron Omand saving from long distance and Reece Tranter for Romford firing over after good work down the right.
Romford were forced into two changes early on in the second half with Eddie Hart taken off ill and Reece Cosson with a head injury. On fifty-seven minutes it was three when Thurrock forward Daniel Okah swept home from inside the six yard box before George Cocklin was shown the red card after picking up two bookings for what looked like very good challenges. Two goals in two minutes finished off the tie when Robert Clark hit a long range dipping effort over Aaron Omand and Okah scored his second, again from inside the six yard box. Romford did get a consolation goal when Aaron Omand’s long free kick was spectacularly sliced over his own keeper by Michael Bottone before the referee brought the game to an end.
