Aaron Omand saved easily from a long distance drive by Dan Millard on seven minutes before three minutes later Romford youngster Reece Tranter picked the ball up and ran at his marker before firing towards goal, but Ed Thompson had no trouble stopping the shot. On twenty-five minutes Potters Bar, who liked to pass the ball around the back four with out actually going anywhere were forced to punt it forward and that kick found it's way to the left wing where Romford had switched off and Cole Penny found himself in space before putting a cross into the box where Josh Hutchinson was waiting. Aaron Omand came out to narrow the angle but the striker toe poked past him to make it one-nil. Three minutes later and Potters Bar should have been down to ten men when Josh Urguhart kicked out at Tom Richardson after he fouled the Romford player but despite the ref being only yards away the midfielder escaped even a booking. Neither team were creating anything with the game being played at a low tempo unlike any cup tie I have witnessed before. Romford had a free kick on forty minutes that Tom Richardson hit straight down the throat of Thompson before a minute late Hutchinson made it two walking straight through the Romford defence and slotting past the keeper.
Romford applied some early pressure in the second half but couldn't create any clear cut chances. They were throwing everything forward but the Potter Bar defence just cleared the ball easily. Substitute Lewis Francis flashed a cross come shot across the goalmouth on fifty seven minutes before the referee decided not to send off Dan Millard for a second rash challenge in five minutes. Romford continued to press, but chances were still few and far between whilst the home team seemed content to sit back and defend their lead. Potters Bar nearly got a third near the end with Aaron Omand saving well from a counter attack and soon after the whistle blew ending this disappointing Romford performance.
