The game started slowly but Romford gradually took control but were unable to force an opening until on twenty minutes when Abs Seymour's pass set up Kurt Smith for a left foot drive that was saved at the near post by Hadleigh keeper Darren Moyes. Robbie Norris bundled his way through the defence five minutes later but his shot was dragged wide. Romford had a few more half chances but Hadleigh started to find some belief with Kris Rose heading over from a corner and Shane Wardley firing wide from the left wing. Just before half time Rose again fired a volley inches wide before another Hadleigh corner was cleared to Kurt Smith who turned his marker and sent a beautiful pass to Lewis Francis. Scampering down the right wing, he cut towards goal and powerfully curled the ball with the outside of his right boot past Moyes and into the net to give the Boro a first half lead.
On forty-nine minutes and after good work from Lewis Francis and Abs Seymour the ball found its way to Robbie Norris who fired a shot towards goal that took a deflection which meant that Moyes could only parry it into the net and give Romford a two goal cushion. The visitors continued to dominate proceedings and Tom Richardson added to the scoring on fifty-seven minutes, heading in at the far post from George Woodward's cross and he grabbed his second goal ten minutes later when a freekick found it's way onto the top of the woodwork. Kurt Smith also headed the rebound against the bar before Tom Richardson bundled the ball home. Debutant Eddie Hart grabbed an assist after his run and pass set up Abs Seymour who fired a dipping shot into the net from thirty yards on seventy-six minutes. Romford could have made the score even better in injury time when Eddie Hart and James Ishmail both headed inches wide and Eddie Hart after good work could only fire just the wrong side of the post before the ref brought the game to an end and Romford could look forward to an away tie against Grays Athletic.
