The Boro nearly opened the scoring on eight minutes when George Woodward's free kick floated past everyone and came back off the crossbar. Two minutes later and the hosts opened the scoring after the ball deflected kindly into the path of Danny Aldwinckle who rounded Aaron Omand in the Romford goal and passed the ball into the back of the net. A minute later and a fantastic save from Aaron Omand kept the score at one after a shot from the edge of the box was flying into the bottom corner. Paul Clayton had a shot saved for Romford before Piers Wixon raced through for Tilbury but his effort cannoned back off the bar and clear. Just before half time Tom Richardson's diving header flew just inches wide of the post before an onslaught by Tilbury who were camped in the Romford area and were only denied by three Aaron Omand saves and Joe Oates clearing the ball off the line.
Romford needed to be a lot better in the second half and James Ishmail headed home via the post seven minutes after the break from George Woodward's corner but five minutes later a rare mistake from David Ottley allowed Aldwinckle to poke home after the back pass fell short. Romford were pushing on but Tilbury always looked dangerous and were getting the rub of the green in the dangerous areas before Romford thought they had equalised when a Joe Oates cross was bundled home at the far post by Tom Richardson, but the linesman had his flag up indicating the ball had gone out of play. Five minutes from time Joe Oates fired a left foot shot just wide after good work by Reece Tranter but that was the last chance for Romford bringing their first defeat in nine games.
