The game was played at an electric pace throughout with both teams playing some great attacking football and each firing early chances over the bar. On ten minutes Aaron Omand in the Romford goal made a good save as the ball came through a crowd of players before three minutes later Ben Sawyer fired into the side netting from a difficult angle. Enol Ordonez produce a fine save of his own, denying Tom Richardson who's left foot shot was heading for the bottom corner on twenty minutes. Tom Richardson had another shot well saved after getting on the end of David Ottley's crossfield ball while at the other end Sawyer turned one way then another before having his curling shot deflected onto the post and luckily for the Boro, straight into the keeper's arms. Right on half time Daniel Jones found space on the left and his shot crept just inches wide of the far post.

In an attacking move striker Ryan Imbert replaced midfielder Robbie Norris ten minutes after half time and his pace and power caused more trouble for the Soham defence. On sixty-three minutes Paul Clayton headed wide from a George Woodward corner but Romford did take the lead two minutes later. The ball was chipped into Nick Reynolds on the edge of the box, his cushioned header found Daniel Jones breaking from midfield and his right foot half volley found the bottom corner of the net. Soham continued to push forward and nearly equalised straight away but a free header went just the wrong side of the post. With fifteen minutes to go Romford doubled their lead when Tom Richardson found Nick Reynolds on the edge of the box who turned and fired home via a slight deflection, marking his hundredth game with a goal. Substitute Eddie Hart nearly scored with a header late on and Tom Richardson had a third goal wrongly disallowed for offside while the Boro defence stood firm to see out the rest of the game.
