The visitors nearly got off to the perfect start when Kazim Bishop hit the bar after a good turn on two minutes before Ryan Imbert used his strength to create space but drag a left foot shot just wide. On twenty minutes a Joe Oates corner found Nick Reynolds free and the striker headed from inside the six yard box to give Romford the lead. Five minutes later and it was all square when Khale Da Costa hit a powerful shot from distance that flew into the top corner giving Boro keeper Aaron Omand no chance.
Romford should have had a second on thirty-six minutes but after a goalmouth scramble the hosts could not manage to get a clean strike of the ball and it was eventually cleared.
Just before half time Abs Seymour found some space in the Ware half and after running forward he struck the ball hard and true but the keeper managed to parry it to safety.
The second half was mainly played in midfield but Aaron Omand kept the scores level with a full length dive to keep out a header and moments later Jack Barry denied a certain goal with a great block. The two missed chances proved costly for Ware and on sixty-nine minutes Abs Seymour created space and played a fantastic ball into the path of substitute Tom Richardson who steadied himself before curling the ball into the bottom corner for Romford's second. From then on both teams cancelled each other out and Romford closed the game down with relative ease and nearly made it comfortable deep into injury time, but Reece Tranter fired just wide after a good move.
