Romford playing their sixth match in twelve days took the game to the championship hopefuls with an Abs SEYMOUR cross just eluding everyone on seven minutes. Chris BARRY making his second start of the season hit a shot that was deflected just the wrong side of the post and from the resulting corner Paul CLAYTON'S flicked header landed in the path of Jack BARRY who hammered the ball home to give Romford the lead. Romford were attacking more and more but a quick counter attack on thirty minutes nearly brought the visitors back on level terms, but Boro stopper Atu NGOY denied the forward when one on one. VCD now started to look like the team who were leading the league, heading just wide from a corner and firing over, and on forty minutes they thought they had equalised but Atu Ngoy made a fantastic full length save to keep them at bay. Right on half time Abs SEYMOUR won the ball and released Daniel JONES who ran forward before slipping in Eddie HART who's first effort was saved, but the striker showed more desire to win the rebound and fired in low from an acute angel to make it two.
Romford started the second half well and Daniel JONES's forty-ninth minute low corner found Jack BARRY but his sliced effort went wide and two minutes later Ryan IMBERT could only stretch and toe poke wide when getting on the end of Daniel JONES' through ball. At the other end VCD shot across goal and Atu NGOY made some easy saves but it was Romford who looked more likely to get the next goal with Daniel JONES twice going close. With only minutes to go VCD showed little urgency to get the ball forward, passing it along the back line slowly in elaborate build ups, and Romford easily held out to keep their ninth clean sheet in fifteen.
Once again the team played with great confidence and did not tire, a tribute to the management's skilful squad rotation during this heavy fixture programme.
