Another fine strike by Tom Richardson on nine minutes gave Boro the victory today at Ship Lane. A long ball forward was held up well by Ryan Imbert who then laid it off to Tom Richardson. He hit across the ball first time and it curled powerfully into the bottom corner past an unmoved Daniel Bircham in the Soham goal. This was the quickest goal that Boro had scored so far this season. The visitors could have taken the lead even earlier but Luke Stanley fired over from the edge of the box after Aaron Omand had spilt a cross, but the keeper made amends moments later saving from Stanley after he run a long way with the ball before before shooting at goal. Aaron Omand also kept Romford's lead intact shortly after saving well from Michael Simpson when the midfielder found space at the far post. Lewis Francis nearly doubled Romford's lead on twenty-four minutes when his inswinging corner was left by the Soham defence allowing it to bounce against the near post before they managed to clear. Robbie Norris who was industrious in midfield alongside his partner Michael Sammut dragged a shot wide on twenty-nine minutes and Ryan Imbert took too long to pull the trigger on forty-four minutes after bursting clear, allowing a defender to get back and block his shot.
Eddie Hart forced a save from Bircham early in the second half after being set up by Tom Richardson and at the other end substitute Ben Sawyer nearly got an equaliser but could only shoot across the goalmouth after outpacing his marker and getting to the ball before the onrushing Aaron Omand. David Ottley pulled the ball back for Tom Richardson on fifty-eight minutes but the Romford goal scorer fired his swivel shot over the bar. Soham were throwing everything forward but Romford's defence was holding firm and letting their forwards try to do the business on the counter attack. However Ryan Imbert, Lewis Francis and Eddie Hart could not find the target after getting in good positions behind the Soham defence. Boro survived a late scare with three minutes to go when Ashley Walters headed straight at Aaron Omand when free in the box before the referee who had an excellent game blew for the finish.
