Cheshunt were good value for their win and totally dominated the first half with slick passing and deadly counter attacks that left Romford shell shocked. On two minutes a neat pass by player manager Omer Riza found John Megicks free in the area but his tame shot was saved by Aaron Omand. But it wasn't long before the Ambers were ahead when moments after Josh Cooper rattled the bar with a thunderous drive, Paul Clayton was harshly judged to have handled the ball as the linesman on the far side flagged for a penalty. Riza fired the ball low into the corner to make it one nil. Minutes later Riza and Megicks combined again but the latter shot wide when he should have scored. However it was two goals to nil on seventeen minutes when a swift counter attack from Cheshunt after a Romford corner was cleared left Megicks clear down the left and his pull back found Riza clear in the area and he passed the ball into the back of the net. Cheshunt were controlling the game but neither team could make any clear cut chances until on forty minutes another quick counter attack this time from a Romford free kick found Luke Marshall down the left and he picked out Josh Cooper at the far post to score with a simple finish. Four minutes later and it was four after Cooper walked through the Boro defence and coolly slotted the ball past the keeper after looking like he had gone too wide.
Captain Paul Clayton went off early in the second half after failing to recover from a first half knock and Romford kept Cheshunt at bay without creating anything at the other end until Scott Truman headed over from a Lewis Francis corner on sixty minutes. Four minutes later and the Boro were down to ten men when Joe Oates was given a straight red for a bad tackle with Cooper having to limp off, but Romford were outraged when Cheshunt substitute Lewis Payne came flying in with an out of control tackle severely injuring Abs Seymour. Abs Seymour was carried off on a stretcher but to the surprise of everyone in the crowd and the Romford players and management Payne was only given a yellow card. Despite going down to nine men as all the substitutes had been used Romford started to look the better team playing some of the neat football we are used to seeing but the final whistle soon came and Cheshunt were well worth their victory.
