With fifteen minutes to go the drab affair was petering out to a goalless draw when a long ball forward was collected by Romford goalkeeper Atu Ngoy. As the big stopper gathered the ball, Ware forward Tony Martin flung a leg out catching him, and the stopper reacted with a head butt giving the referee no option but to send the player off. However Romford felt hard done by when the referee also pointed to the spot as the first incident was a foul on the Romford player. Spencer Knight stepped up and squeezed the ball under substitute Aaron Omand (on for the unlucky Tom Richardson who was sacrificed) to give Ware an unlikely win.

The first half failed to get going with both defences easily coping with the long balls thrown at them and not being able to muster anything other than a half chance. Romford were probably on top and a rasping Lewis Francis free kick was tipped over by Ware keeper Matt Gill and Tom Richardson shot weakly after a strong run. Right on half time the best chance of the half fell to Joe Reynolds but after he got behind the Boro defence he could only shoot straight at Atu Ngoy.

The second half wasn't much more entertaining than the first. Kurt Smith headed straight at Gill on forty-nine minutes after good work from Joe Oates, and at the other end Spencer Knight fired wide from a free kick on the hour. Substitute Eddie Hart had Romford's best chance for a goal when bursting through the Ware back line but after steadying himself he could only shoot straight at Gill. Moments later came the games high drama incident and after the goal Ware did enough to keep Romford out and earn their first win of the season. Unfortunately this game will not go down as a classic on Non League Day and for the Boro the quicker it is forgotten the better.
