This game turned out not to be the anticipated competitive game considering both sides recent turn of form.

Brentwood showed no signs of tiredness although this was their fourth outing in eight days and Romford failed to compete well enough really deserve any of the spoils.

The home team started brightly enough but set the trend on their whole afternoon’s performance by not making their passes accurate or penetrative enough and wasting shooting opportunities when they came while Brentwood, for their part, always looked effective as they threaded the ball across and around the pitch.

The first half only produced one goal which came from a spot kick converted by Brentwood’s Piers Wixon given when Boro’s James Gammons was deemed to have fouled Ross Parmenter in an attempt to clear his penalty area .

The home fans hope that their team having been 1- 0 down at the break would motivate them to come out and perform better in the second half failed to materialise as Boro continued to waste their ball possession although Paul Kavanagh was unlucky just on the hour when his 30 yard free kick beat Nicky Pyne in the visitors’ goal all ends up but rebounded off the crossbar.

Just after this let off the Brentwood lead rose to 2-0 when Lee curled in a low pass from the left across Neil Finn in the Romford goal and Joe Stevens took the score to 3-0 a few minutes later when he was the first to get to a pass sweeping across the goalline after a mazy run in on the right by Wixon.

Later on Romford had a short burst of attacking play during which Chris Thomas brought out a great save from visiting ‘keeper Nick Pyne but the final score was taken to 4-0 on four minutes of added time when Ben Boyce was given too much room and beat Finn all ends up with a low shot inside his right hand upright from just outside the area.

Romford squad: Finn, Clayton, Protheroe (Jones 80), Libby (Truman 28), Toms, Gammons (Cossons 58), Thomas, Barry, Smith, Senghore, Kavanagh. Subs not used: Godbold, Lamb and Mulrooney (GK).

Boro’s next game is at home to Great Wakering Rovers this Tuesday evening and the following Saturday March 20 they visit Potters Bar Town.
