Romford competed well in the first half and deserved their 15 minute lead when Toran Senghore having received a right wing pass, tricked his way into the penatlty area and hit in a low cross which Kurt Smith bundled into the Blues net at the near post.
Play continued fairly evenly with Lowestoft pressing for an equalizer and Boro trying to increase their goal tally.
The Blues eventually levelled the scores on 37 minutes when Dale Cockrill reacted sharply to a loose rebound in the visitors’ penalty area and fired home along the ground. The scoreline stayed at 1-1 until the half time break.
At the restart Lowestoft increased their work rate and gained control of the majority of the play with their fast moving passing movements which Romford did their best to counter.
To the delight of the majority of the largest Blues home league crowd of the season of 782 their side took a two goal lead in the space of two minutes with a brace by Gary McGee with his second coming from a superb pin point cross by Craig Bussens.
Six minutes later with a quarter of the game remaining the scoreline became 4-1 when a Romford attack broke down on the left and a long ball out of the Blues defence was collected and efficiently converted by Joe Francis.
Boro tried their best to stem the home attacking play but were restricted to the occasional counter attack and went even further behind with another cool finish by Francis.
Neil Finn in the visiting goal got down well to prevent another Lowestoft goal attempt as he did a number of times during the game but was unable to prevent a further home goal with McGee completing his hat-trick and taking the score to a final 6-1.
There was a final flourish from both sides before the final whistle with Romford’s Martin Heed hooking a Paul Kavanagh left wing corner high and wide while a Blues goalwards effort rebounded noisily off all at least two of their visitors’ posts before being cleared away.
Boro now entertain top six side Concord Rangers this coming Saturday hoping to get a point or three to help them pull away from their current bottom five position.
