Details of our victory over visitors Swifts follow together with all the R1N results which enabled us to jump one place in the league table.

Boro continued their improvement in form with an ultimately comfortable victory over visiting Swifts.

We featured one change in our starting line-up with Steve Willis coming in at centre-back for the unavailable Paul White while Heybridge had four new faces on show.

Boro started brightly and a Paul Kavanagh free kick from the right was just over a leaping James Gammon’s head as he drifted in on the left. This was followed by three man move which ended up with a drive from Kurt Smith which drifted just wide.

Swifts then enjoyed a period of pressure which included their best chance to score when the ball ricocheted around the home goal line and it was eventually a defender rather than an attacker got his foot to it.

An opening goal eventually came after 18 minutes when Romford’s Toran Senghore forced his way with the ball along the edge of the visitors’ penalty and it broke clear to Smith who turned quickly and his left foot shot, masked by his marker, squirmed under Ollie Morris-Sanders in the Heybridge goal and into the net.

Smith was then responsible for Boro’s second goal when he was pulled down chasing a loose ball into the visiting penalty area and Kavanagh smashed the resulting spot kick into the top left hand corner of the Swift’s net giving their keeper no chance at all.

This two goal margin gave the home team the confidence to take control of the game for the rest of the first period but they could not maximise on this and the nearest they came to adding to their score was when Senghore wound his way into the visiting penalty area but his final effort went wide.

Romford took a 3-0 lead on 53 minutes when Smith touched a ball out to Martin Heed who was standing just outside a crowded Swifts’ penalty area and he hit the ball hard and low into the net past their unsighted ‘keeper.

The visitors reduced the lead on 66 minutes when after a period of attacking play they took the ball into their opposing penalty area on the left and a hard low cross was turned into the Boro net by Leon Antoine.

The score then stayed the same until right on the stroke of normal full time when substitute Jay Taylor placed a clinical through ball to Heed who ran into the visitors’ penalty area and unleashed an unstoppable ground shot into the Heybridge net.

That to all intents and purposes was that and, when the final whistle blew after three minutes of added time, Boro had increased their current winning run to three games with a remarkable eleven goals for and three against ratio.

Romford squad: Finn, Barry (Taylor 80), Kavanagh, Clayton, Willis, Gammons (Port 73), Heed, Nelson, Smith (Thomas 80), Senghore, Burnett. Substitutes not used: K. Neville and Mulrooney (GK).

Boro entertain Maidstone United a league cup tie on Tuesday evening November 10th and then have an away league match at second in the table Great Wakering Rovers the following Saturday November 14th.
