Both defences were in the ascendancy throughout this game on August Bank Holiday Monday and even when play was in one or the other penalty area there were no great chances to be had for the attacking side.
A number of corners were awarded each way which but not converted into goals and, in fact, it was not until the final quarter of an hour when the match could have been decided either way.
First of all Boro forward Paul Burnett lost his marker at last and rounded his opposing goalkeeper only to see his left foot shot cleared from off the goal line by a despairing lunge from a Blues defender.
Shortly after this the visitors had the ball in the home net only for their player who had made the final touch to be given offside. It seemed to watching observers that the ball would have probably gone over the line without this player's involvement.
So the game came to an end with honours even which could almost have been foretold given the records of the two competing side.
