Aveley opened the scoring on six minutes when Romford keeper spilt Petrit Elbi's free kick and Jordan Cox was on hand to scramble the ball home. Romford nearly equalised when Tom Richardson got ahead of his marker but could only deflect Tyler Christians-Law's free kick inches wide. Cox nearly double Aveley's lead but Atu Ngoy saved well after the striker had found some space in the penalty area. On thirty-six minutes Tom Richardson who had already beaten his marker numerous times burst into the box and was clumsily brought down. From the resulting penalty Tom Richardson easily beat Aveley keeper Jack Giddens send the stopper the wrong way. Just before half time Cox again turned well in the box but his swivel volley looped just wide of the Boro goal.
Romford started brightly in the second half with Jamie Dicks shooting just wide and Tom Richardson giving the Aveley full back nightmares, and it was from another one of his mazy runs that Romford earned a free kick. Romford tried to work something new but Aveley intercepted and quickly broke down the right with Junior Appiah racing into the area where he picked out debutant Alex Read and the former Boro striker shot home. Cox nearly got a third for the Millers but Atu Ngoy saved well. Tom Richardson once again beat Teddy Nesbitt down the right wing and pulled back for Kurt Smith but his shot was deflected just wide. Romford were really piling on the pressure but were unable to force any real saves from Giddens. With five minutes to go Aime Blessing beat Giddens to the ball but could only head over Kurt Smith's free kick. Aveley managed to see out the four minutes of injury time and win the hard fought game and give their promotion push a valuable three points.
