After an early pitch inspection the game went ahead and Robbie Mason nearly opened the scoring for the hosts shooting just wide of the Boro goal on four minutes. Romford started to get into the match and after some strong possession in the Soham half Kurt Smith won a free kick out wide on the left wing. Tyler Christian-Law whipped the ball into the far post where it was completely misjudged by keeper Dan Bircham and Nick Reynolds was left unmarked to head home on eighteen minutes. Nick Reynolds shot just wide on thirty-two minutes after he got on the end of Tom Richardson's flick but neither team really troubled the keeper. Just before half time a deflected cross found its way to the far post where Robbie Mason headed it towards goal, Boro stopper Atu Ngoy pulled off a fantastic save but Luke Stanley was on hand to tap the rebound home.
Soham dominated the second half but Romford stood firm clearing everything that was thrown at them. Atu Ngoy made a string of saves including one quite brilliant one keeping out a deflected shot. Romford occasionally threatened on the counter attack but didn’t create any clear cut chances. Stanley could have won it for Soham when he shot wide in injury time but after a strong defensive display Romford probably deserved a point from the match.
