Romford never got out of first gear and Chatham capitalised by scoring five unanswered goals on a disappointing day in Kent.

Things could have started differently but Billy Hunt chasing onto a Nick Reynolds through ball could only fire over inside the first minute and if Ben Jones had managed put the ball anywhere but into the safe arms of Tim Roberts in the Chatham goal with three minutes on the clock. On nine minutes Jamie Dicks unleashed a powerful free kick from about thirty yards that went inches over the bar. After that it was pretty much one way traffic for the rest of the first half with Jack Barry clearing off the line from an Austin Gacheru header. On twenty five minutes Lee Hales cut in and his shot rebounded off the post but the striker could only hit the return over the bar. Hales missed another chance when his attempted lob went well wide of Chris Clark in the Boro goal. On forty minutes Gacheru rose highest from a corner but his header was this time cleared off the line by Adam Salmon. Gacheru had a hand in the opener on forty-two minutes when his flick was volleyed home by Hales from the edge of the box. Even though the striker didn't hit it cleanly the sliced effort looped over Chris Clark and into the net.

Romford had most of the possession in the early stages of the second half but apart from Tom Richardson and Billy Hunt shots from distance that were easily saved, they had nothing to show from it. On seventy-two minutes Romford conceded the second goal when Harry Smith headed home from a free-kick. Romford continued to push forward but their was no spark or even any luck and Chatham put the game out of sight when Smith was brought down in the box and Matt Solly slotted home the penalty in the eighty-first minute. Straight from the restart Lewis Francis nearly scored but after bursting through the defence his shot clipped the outside of the post and went wide.
In the second minute of injury time Smith made it four sliding in and poking the ball home and two minutes later it was five when Hales's free kick trickled into the bottom corner. All in all a bad day at the office for the Boro.
