Ilford had the game's first chance on five minutes when left back Alexander Akambi hit a shot from distance that curled just wide of the Romford goal. Minutes later Hussein Isa broke the offside trap but could only poke the ball wide of the goal as keeper Daniel Mbaku rushed out to narrow the angle.
On eleven minutes Nick Reynolds scored the game's only goal when he powerfully headed home Adam Salmon's great cross. Paul Clayton nearly doubled Romford's lead soon after but could only steer the ball over the bar after getting in behind the Ilford defence.
Warren Mfula beat the Romford offside trap on eighteen minutes but shot well wide. The same player got in down the left hand side eight minutes later but his shot was weak and straight at Michael Gooch.
On twenty eight minutes some nice Romford interchanges ended with the ball falling to Billy Radley on the right and the winger put in a good cross that just evaded Hussein Isa and Lewis Francis.
On the half hour Lewis Francis hit a shot from distance that whistled just wide and the same played had a shot blocked from eighteen yards after the ball landed at his feet when Hussein Isa's shot was deflected into his path.
Ilford should have gone in level at half time but Mfula headed wide from six yards after finding himself unmarked in the penalty area.

With the temperature reaching nearly thrity degrees the second half was always going to be a struggle for both teams but fair play to the players because none of them gave up on anything but both teams found it hard to create many chances.
Ilford's best chance came ten minutes after the restart when Adejokun cut in from the left and picked out Mfula and his scuffed shot fell nicely to Skoniezki who managed to shoot over from only yards out.
Romford managed to soak up all the Ilford pressure and thought they had doubled their lead near the end but Nick Reynolds' goal was ruled out for offside.
