Romford dominated play in the first half and were unlucky to go in level at the break. Matt Toms up for a corner, volleyed a shot that hit the outside of the post and went wide on seventeen minutes. Potters Bar went close minutes later when Josh Urquhart shot just over from distance.
On twenty-eight minutes Ryan Imbert set up Hussein Isa but his curling shot went just wide, before two minutes later Imbert himself forced the Potters Bar keeper Ed Thompson into a fine save, when his powerful shot was tipped over after a neat flick by Nick Reynolds set up the Boro forward.
Romford earned many corners and one of these was only half cleared to Jack Barry who put the ball back in the mixer and Matt Toms headed just over. It was Matt Toms again who nearly broke the deadlock when his shot was blocked yards from goal after Hussein Isa's headed was cleared off the line on thirty-seven minutes. Another Romford chance just before half time with Hussein Isa fizzing a shot just wide of the goal. Potters Bar Town forward James Gerfield wriggled into the are on forty-three minutes but his shot was fired just over the bar.
Romford started the second half the same way they ended the first half, on the attack and Tom Richardson put a great cross into the far post to Paul Clayton but Liam Maewood just got to the ball first to stop the Boro midfielder heading home. On fifty minutes a Hussein Isa shot from distance dipped just over the bar with Thompson stranded out of his goal. On fifty-seven minutes Paul Clayton crossed the ball and it was clearly handled in the box but the referee waved play on. Potters Bar counter attacked from this and James Gersfield went down in the box under a challenge from a Romford defender and once again the referee did not point to the spot despite the incident looking pretty clear cut. Potter Bar did get a penalty on sixty-three minutes but this time, fortunately when Gersfield went down easily after being challenged by Jack Barry. The striker dusted himself down and stroked home the penalty to put the visitors one-nil up. Paul Martin made a change for Romford and introduced Lewis Francis and changed formation, and it was the substitute who equalised for the Boro on seventy-four minutes from the penalty spot after Ryan Imbert was brought down by Billy Witham.
With ten minutes to go Jack Barry's free header from a Lewis Francis corner went wide and a minute later Ryan Imbert had his legs clipped in the box when about to shoot from six yards out but the referee gave a corner instead of a penalty. On eighty-six minutes Gersfield broke free but could only shoot over for Potters Bar before in injury Romford got the goal their play deserved right at the death. Tom Richardson picked the ball up wide and ran towards the area before being brought down. Joe Oates swung the free kick under the bar and Nick Reynolds and the keeper, Thompson both went up. Reynolds got a slight touch but Thompson should have done better to keep the ball out and ended up pushing it into the net. A quick mention to young Michael Sammut who unselfishly put himself about in midfield, winning the ball on numerous occasions so freeing up the rest of the Boro players to attack the visitors.
