Chatham nearly opened the scoring in the second minute when Brad Potter headed over from a corner but Romford went close themselves moments later when Elliott Long fired wide after Nick Reynolds flicked the ball onto him. On nine minutes Nick Reynolds cut in from the right but his left foot shot went well wide. Three minutes later and Paul Clayton tested Tim Roberts in the Chatham goal with a sharp left footed drive.
Ten minutes before half time and some more good work by Nick Reynolds led the ball to fall to Hussein Isa but the Boro striker could only shoot straight at Roberts.
Romford nearly got lucky on thirty-nine minutes when Alfie Hilton's cross hit the top of the bar and just before half time Tom Richardson could not make strong enough contact on a Paul Clayton cross.

Ten minutes into the second half and Garry Tilley could only fire wide for Chatham after getting on the end of Rodricue Ndiane's long throw but the deadlock was broken a minute later when from the resulting goal kick Nick Reynolds flicked the ball on to Hussein Isa at the second attempt and the little striker turned quickly and fired the ball low past Roberts. On sixty-seven minutes Hussein Isa nearly doubled the lead when Paul Clayton's reverse pass over the defence found him alone at the back post, but he fired wide.
On seventy-two minutes Tom Richardson, who bossed the Boro midfield nearly made a goal from nothing when he picked the ball up out wide and unleashed a fantastic strike that was clawed round the post by Roberts.
Chatham battled hard to get the equaliser but Romford's back line stood firm to earn them a deserved three points.
