ROMFORD 0 (0) - (0) 0 Basildon United Attendance 109 - Rookery Hill
Romford ended a run of five straight league defeats with this goalless draw against newly promoted Basildon.
The visitors themselves had dropped to fifth in the table after a wonderful start to the season and recent management change, and in a game of few chances Romford had the better of the first half. On his return to the first team Harry DALY should have scored in the thirteenth minute, firing just wide of the far post after being teed up after good work from the every running Max BOLTON. At the other end Rhys HUGHES had to be alert to save at the feet of Jeffrey Cobblah. Roddy Lemba had a curling effort saved and just as the first half was coming to a sleepy end, it suddenly burst into life. Jonathan NZENGO, temporarily back in the Boro side due to being cup tied for East Thurrock's FA Trophy game went on one of his runs from full back before unleashing a powerful drive that was beaten away before Bolton got on the end of Lemba's flick, but once again the impressive Emmanuel Olajode made a very good save to keep the score level. In first half stoppage time Hughes made two good stops to keep Basildon out, firstly saving low down before making a much better one denying Aundre Wholas-Spencer after a quick counter attack left the forward unmarked in the area.
The second half saw few clear cut chances created despite plenty of effort from both teams. Romford did need Hughes to keep them at level pegging when after a mistake in the Boro defence Fahad Nyanja had an open goal, but just as he looked to celebrate Hughes appeared out of nowhere to deny the striker his moment of glory. Nyanja headed a cross against the bar while Romford only needed someone to tap in Nzengo's low cross that trickled across the goal line, but alas no one was on had to take the chance. In the final moments Hughes once again made a great save to deny a Basildon forward the winning goal but in the end a draw was probably the fair result.
