Kurt Smith continued his great goal scoring run when his thirty yard left foot volley flew over the Abbey keeper's head in the third minute of the game. Smith then thought he had doubled Romford's lead in the eleventh minute when he poked in a Nick Reynolds knock down but the goal was ruled out for offside.
After a good save by Elliott Anderson from an Abbey freekick, Smith did get the chance to double the lead when a Ricky Mackin slide rule pass sent Smith scampering in on goal and the striker cooly placed the ball in the corner of the net with a low left foot shot.
With Romford looking comfortable and the match approaching half time Abbey got their first real sight of goal after Boro failed to clear a long ball and Adam Bolle poked the ball past Anderson to reduce the deficit. There was still time in the half for another goal and Abbey got it when Tom Bruno hit a great shot from thirty five yards over Anderson and into the top corner.
Both teams battled hard in the second half but there were very few chances with Wola Odedoyin poking just over and Jack Barry shooting just wide for the hosts.
Abbey almost stole the three points in the last mnute when Billy Jones found some space, but after doing the hard part his shot flew well wide. All in all it was a fair point for both sides.
