Six minutes before half time a home move down the left led to a low cross by Joe Oates and some interplay between Hussein Isa and Kurt Smith let in Chris Sullivan to place the ball over the line.
On 51 minutes Smith drove home low and left footed from the edge of the area from a touch back by Isa who was unlucky in turn with a couple of chances created for him by Smith.
The Stags tried hard to get back into the game without any luck although their chances improved when Boro went down to ten men for the last fifteen minutes of the game with Abs Seymour being given a straight red card when he was deemed to have made a last man foul tackle on an opposing forward just outside the right hand corner of his penalty area.
In the event Romford made some defensive substitutions and combined well to prevent their visitors from benfitting from their numerical advantage and thus maintained their two goal advantage until the end.
Romford squad: Anderson; Ottley; Seymour; J Barry ©; Toms; Mackin; Bingham; Sullivan; Smith (Odedoyin 82); Isa (Clayton 79) ; Oates (C. Barry 77). Unused substitutes; Ishmail and Reynolds.
