In the first half neither side created any real chances with Boro’s probable best goal scoring opportunity of the game coming just before the interval with Tony Martin having a clear chance just in front of goal but not being able to get enough strength into his shot to beat the Mead keeper.
The second half was more of the same as both teams huffed and puffed without anything to show for their efforts.
Just when the spectators were resigned to a goalless draw being the final result and with fifteen minutes of the game remaining Romford failed to deal with a Thamesmead corner on the left as Lee Dawson got his head to the ball at the near post and guided it across into the home net.
Boro tried in vain to level the scores and get at least a point out of the game but were unable to do so before the final whistle blew despite over five minutes of added time.
The only consolation we could take out of the game was that there were no cards flourished at all by the referee who handled matters very fairly and efficiently.
Romford squad: Johnson; Ottley (Oates 81); Kavanagh; Clifton, Toms; Seymour; Clayton ©; Martin (Lord 90); Skidmore; Richardson (Heywoord 65); Dicks. Unused substitute: Anderson (GK).
