The first forty five minutes set the scene for the whole ninety with much of the game consisting of mid field action taking place on the damp spongy playing surface.
Boro were the first to go close with an Ellis Skidmore volley that went too high on the half hour mark and then just before the interval Emiel Aiken for Tilbury had a good one on one chance almost on half time but failed get his shot past the outstretched leg of home keeper Lamar Johnson and the interval arrived with a goalless scoreline.
Straight after the restart the Dockers opened the scoring when Tom Webb was at the far post to convert a right wing free kick.
However, their lead didn’t last very long with a Romford equaliser arriving eight minutes later from a Dave Ottley free kick which was struck home by his skipper Paul Clayton. Clayton had earlier been presented with a club record appearance award just before the game started.
There was further occasional goal mouth action for the final thirty five minutes with the best chance going to Tilbury with another one on one but Johnson once again saved well and Boro’s Jamie Dicks also had to make a well timed clearance.
Romford also made unsuccessful forays into the visitors’ penalty area but apart from this action both defences, ably backed by their goalkeepers, were up to the challenge and blocked and cleared until the final whistle blew/
