That no score came during those last first half minutes was mainly down to the visitors’ profligacy. Tom Broadhurst, in particular, wasted a great chance when he was through alone on goal but sliced the ball wide of Elliott Anderson’s far post.

With Nick Reynolds brought in up front at half time Boro came more into their own although it took a great save low down to his left by Anderson on 55 minutes to keep the score level.

Coming more and more into the game as the second half developed Romford took a slightly undeserved lead on 65 minutes when midfielder Abs Seymour arrived in the visitors’ penalty area to put away a ball which the Swifts’ defence had not been able to clear.

Play flourished end to end in robust play following this opener but it was the home side which scored again when, on 80 minutes, Paul Kavanagh took a corner on the left from which Addian Clifton somehow managed to squeeze in header just inside the far post to give Boro a two goal cushion which they held on to for the remaining ten minutes or so of the game.
