Chatham Town 0 v 3 Romford - attendance 134

It was obvious from the visitors’ attitude from the kick off that they were determined to make up for their somewhat lacksadaisical show last Saturday.

Chasing, supporting and passing accurately the Boro were by far the stronger side throughout but with Chatham defending stoutly it still took 16 minutes for Romford to score the first goal that they deserved.

This came from a Paul Kavanagh corner on the right which curved in wickedly and found its way over the Chats line courtesy of a Matt Toms’ header with Kurt Smith applying the finishing touch after a short goalmouth melee.

Still dominating play it took the visitors until the stroke of time to improve on their lead when half blocked Chris Richardson’s shot from the edge of the area spun its way into the home goal despite a defender’s efforts which only helped it further into the net. Richardson had also been unlucky earlier in the half when his mighty long range volley came crashing off his opponents’ goalpost angle.

It was more of the same in the second half with Chatham playing their part by trying hard to get back into the game but failing against a determined defence while the Boro always looked dangerous and likely to score.

On 68 minutes Smith more or less put the game out of the Chats’ reach when he placed a one on one through ball right footed past his advancing opposing ‘keeper and could have increased his tally by two more of the same but one shot went wide and the other was blocked.

There were no more goals after this just plenty of action at both ends and after seven minutes of added time this entertaining game came to an end.
