Addian Clifton took this right footed for Wola Adedoyin to head back into the Ilford goal mouth at the far post. Paul Clayton supplied the finishing touch with a firm header into the visitors net.
The match then settled down with the Foxes competing well but Boro always looking the more likely to score.
This the home side did again five minutes or so before the half time break when Jamie Dicks put in a hard low long range shot in which Rob Budd in the visitors failed to hold and Adedoyin was on hand to do the rest.
The second half was more of the same with Romford looking like increasing their lead even further but, having worked themselves into a good attacking positions, consistently failing to make anything out of the situation through over elaboration or a poor final pass.
Ilford for their part strove to get a first goal which would give them a spring board to a grand finale but being rebuffed by a resolute home defence and the second half ended scoreless.
