Setting off at a breakneck speed Boro were 4-0 up inside the first thirty minutes with goals from Wola Odedoyin who tapped in from a rebound from a Nick Reynolds shot on 9 minutes which was followed four minutes later with a second by Abs Seymour who converted from a Jack Barry pass then Reynolds himself got on the score sheet five minutes after this with a skilful lob over the home ‘keeper’s head and then on 28 minutes Barry headed in from a Joe Oates left wing cross to give the visitors a four goal cushion.
However, Waltham Abbey refused to accept defeat at such an early stage and proceeded to put themselves back into the game before half time with two goals within two minutes scored by Tom Laxton and Tim Shaw.
On 71 minutes Romford seemed to have made the game safe at 2-5 with a second goal from Barry who scored with a low shot from the edge of the area.
But the match was not yet over because The Abbotts created a dramatic finish with further goals by Shaw and Laxton on 86 and 90 minutes respectively but, despite the four minutes of added time, a 5-4 win for the Boro is how the score ended up at the final whistle.
