Despite early dominance it took them all of 28 first half minutes to open the scoring when Jack Barry gave them a deserved lead with a header from a Chuck Duru cross.
Boro missed even more good opportunities to go further ahead following this and paid the penalty for their profligacy on 56 minutes when The Ambers levelled the scoring through a rather fortunate penalty which Josh Hutchinson converted with ease.
After this Romford went back on the offensive once more and took the lead again eight minutes later through an explosive left foot 25 yard free kick by Paul Kavanagh.
However Cheshunt were not to be denied and fought back very strongly equalizing once more through a second goal from Hutchinson and they could have sneaked a win had they made more of their chances in the period up to full time.
