Bowers & Pitsea 4 (2) - (0) 0 ROMFORD Attendance 67 - Crown Avenue
Two goals in each half consigned Romford to defeat at promotion chasing Bowers and Pitsea.
In recent months Boro have been heavily beaten by Heybridge, the best footballing side in the division and the long ball experts of Hornchurch and they now came up against a side who are up at second spot in the table by combining both methods of play very well. And it is a good illustration of the financial contraints Romford Manager Paul Martin has to work under that Bowers have been able to sign four of Boro's best players from last season in Dicks, Boswell, Mallett and outstanding keeper Chafer.
The early exchanges were fairly even with neither side creating too much in the way of chances but then a long shot after twenty minutes through a crowd of players came back off the Romford post and was followed five minutes later by the opening goal smashed in by Lewis Manor when the ball fell kindly to him at the end of a prolonged goalmouth scramble that the Boro defence could not clear. Then after only another four minutes had elapsed the visitors found themselves two down when ex-Romford skipper Jamie Dicks was on hand to turn in a cross from the right.
Not long after the start of the second period Bowers had two speculative shots that hit the crossbar but Boro did now come back into the game with some decent moves of their own but these usually came too nothing in front of goal with the home defence very quick into the tackle and giving the visitors very little time on the ball. With sixty seven minutes on the clock Manor picked up a loose ball and hit home his second and Bowers' third through a crowded goalmouth. Romford again competed well and responded with some good attacking play but after seventy one minutes Manor was able to complete his hat trick with a header after a cross found him unmarked at the far post.
Right on the full time whistle Romford's Kai HEATHER collided with his team mate Andrew TIRANHU who remained flat out on the pitch in pain and being treated by both physios . There was a lot of concern about his condition and an ambulance arrived, but he was eventually able to get gingerly to his feet and be transported to hospital to ascertain the extent of his injuries which hopefully will not be too serious.
