Romford performed well but were beaten for the third time in ten days by a top three team.

Thurrock are fighting for home advantage in the promotion play off semi-finals and had a great start, going ahead in the third minute. A cross from the left beat the Boro defence, leaving Michael Pindy with an easy task to convert from close range. Romford recovered well from this early shock and for the rest of the half gave as good as they got and the Thurrock back line had to be alert to prevent the equaliser. Kwasi Marfo and Ryan Boswell had some good overlapping runs and crosses from the wings and together with their midfielders nearly set up strikers Chinedu McKenzie and Nick Reynolds on a number of occasions. Thurrock had their moments as well at the other end but could not get anything much on target after the early goal.

From the beginning of the second period and following a first minute Marfo corner that caused chaos in the goalmouth, Romford had their best period of the game and got the ball into dangerous areas of the home penalty area on a regular basis, but nothing fell kindly and added to some desperate last ditch defending the Thurrock lead was preserved. And it was then stretched after sixty five minutes through Mark Onyemah who showed good control before shooting past Callum Chafer.

A few minutes later Chafer, as he has done so many times this season prevented further damage by saving from a one on one situation when Solomon Coker was clear through and looking favourite to score. After this Romford had plenty of possession but could not create many chances as Thurrock were happy to see the game out and move up to third in the league table. Results elsewhere mean Romford remain in fourteenth position as they host Aveley in another local derby on the final day of the season.
