Romford slipped to a third straight defeat and are now hovering just above the relegation zone.

The Boro would have hoped for a positive result against inconsistent Soham but the visitors had other ideas and raced into a three goal lead by half time. Romford started with a new three at the back defensive formation but looked vulnerable in the seventh minute when Robbie Mason volleyed just wide of the far post, and Soham did take the lead in the twenty-first minute when left back Lewis McDonald got on the end of a left wing cross to stab past Callum Chafer in the Romford goal. With new signing Kai Bichard and the returning Akwasi Marfo joining Chinedu McKenzie in attack, Romford looked threatening and twice after good work by Marfo down the left wing both McKenzie and Bichard went close. But then a simple ball over the top allowed Mason to get behind the Boro defence and he fired early and low past Chafer to make it two-nil in the thirty-second minute. It went from bad to worse five minutes later when Dan Hobbs made it three when a left wing cross somehow made it to the far post and the forward swept the ball home.

Romford were much improved in the second half but were not really threatening while Soham were happy to time waste rather than go for the jugular with Darren Foxley in particular play acting and rolling around trying to win free kicks and get Boro players cautioned or worse. He was later rightly booked for laying injured off the pitch before rolling back on to it to try and waste time. Soham's Mason did miss a glorious chance to extend the lead, firing over before Romford finally looked to get back in the game in the eighty-second minute. The ball was fired into McKenzie in the penalty area who had his back to goal and he held off his man before teeing up Bichard who shot across keeper and into the far corner. But any chance of a comeback was snuffed out three minutes from time as Hobbs grabbed his second, curling home from the edge of the area. Romford will have to improve when they have a huge six pointer against Wroxham next weekend.
