In a battling game of many stoppages and few chances Boro full back Ryan Boswell had his head strapped up after a clash of heads early on before Witham took the lead in the nineteenth minute when James Ishmail, on his return from injury brought down the Witham forward when Romford could not clear a corner leaving Nathan Koranteng to step up and pass the ball down the centre of the goal from the penalty spot. From then on in until the half time whistle both defences were on top with the impressive Witham centre backs denying Romford the time and space to create anything meaningful in front of goal.
Romford did start the second half well and a quick break from Jonathan Adebayo turned defence into attack before the midfielder passed to Chinedu McKenzie who beat his man down the left wing and passed the ball right across the goalmouth, but no one was on hand to tap in from close range. Paul Martin replaced David Manu with Asher Modeste but neither team could really create anymore real chances until a quick counter attack in the seventy-second minute allowed the ball to come to Ryan Charles, who sent in a fierce drive which looked to be heading in but Callum Chafer produced a fantastic save. However Witham were quickest to the ball as it came out from goal and it was crossed back in to Tim Monsheju who headed home from ten yards. With nothing to lose Romford now enjoyed their best and most dominant spell of the match throwing everybody forward and putting the home goal under pressure but they did not get the run of the ball and could not take any of the half chances created. So Witham, who started the match in a similar position to Boro took the three points to climb the table with Romford dropping down towards the relegation positions.
